[intervista] Noah And the Whale

-In march you'll be on Tour in Italy. Have you ever been in Italy?
If yes, what do you think about the Italian music scene? If no,
what are your expectations from this tour?
We have all enjoyed Italy in leisure time. But we've never had the
good fortune of touring the country so we're really excited. We've
heard great things about passionate, attentive audiences.
-How did you get in touch with the Mercury Records?
We had put out a couple of limited release singles with Young and
Lost Club who are an independent London music label. Mercury actually
'signed' them first as an a and r team, and they put out our album
as their first output. So in contract we're really signed to Young
and Lost club who have out out a lot of UK bands before they go
on to bigger things.
-You like Wes Anderson very much, Don't you? What's your relation
with the cinema? I know your name is closely related with it
Cinema is a big influence, in terms of writing but also as a creative
aspect in its own right. A lot of the songs have a grand filmic
sweep and we have had a role in directing all our own videos. Indeed
the tour we are on at the moment in the UK builds projections and
videos into the set and we are about to direct a feature film too.
-Which are your musical influences? Which bands do you feel more
close to you?
Lots of American acts really. Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Bonnie Prince
Billy, Jeffrey Lewis.
-One of your song was used for the promotional spot of the film
"Yes Man" , wasn't it? Which feedback did you have from
it?
They used the whistling from Five Years Time for the trailer so
it was quite odd to hear the song disembodied in that way. In the
US cinema and television are the only ways to reach the whole vast
country, but we're also keen to work with filmmakers collaboratively.
As I said, Charlie is about to direct his first feature film.
-In your website there are some Alex Brenchley's picture. What
about this choice?
Alex has done all our artwork up to this point. We have the
final say but we worked together with him to design the website
and others pieces.
Thanks.
See you in Italy!
